Weekly Reflection 12/14

The past few weeks we have been reading Where The Lilies Bloom in our reading group. This book is about a girl Mary Call and she has to care about her family because her dad passed away. We are going to finish the book before the break.  We have three reading groups and we read everyday at different times. Sometimes we read together so far I really don’t like this book. I wish about something else.

I change just like a snowflake
I don't like the heat it will make me melt
I like being thin
I not alike
I’m different
I’m mine own person
Nice
Family comes first
I like being cold
I’m my best in the winter
I give back to the community
I cover the ground

Community Serve

We went on two community serve field trips last week. The first one we went to GJP and The Genesis Shelter. We went to the GJP to learn what they do everyday. This guy Mr. Sanchez talked about what he does on his job. He helps people that are prisoners so when they get out they could be on the right path. Some people they can’t help because maybe they don’t have right things and they can’t be helped. Then at the end we went on a tour around the campus and Ms. Johnson took us on one this was a good trip. Then we left there and went to The Genesis Shelter where we donated some baby bottles and diapers. We saw what they do everyday we went into a classroom and played with kids a little bit. Then we went up stairs and saw where the families stay while there are on campus. This was a good trip. Community serves is viable because it good to help others because they might not be healthy get all of the stuff they need.

TOT Reflction

Cherokee culture existed for thousands of years in the southeastern United States before European contact. The Cherokee taught the early settlers how to hunt, how to fish and farm and do other new things. The settlers introduced new crops and farming techniques. Sequoyah established the first alphabet in Cherokee culture.  He didn’t know how to read or write but he still made it. In 1830, the same year the Indian Removal Act was passed, gold was found on Cherokee lands. Most Cherokee wanted to stay on their land, but the Europeans wanted the Cherokee out. They had to begin walking to Oklahoma. This is what we called the trail of tears and this was a sad time for the Cherokees.

  I am sad today
OOO I am moving to today
Oklahoma
Long way form here
Sad time for my family and me
Cherokee culture
I wish I could stay in one place
Please give me something to eat
Shelter
Lonely
Sorrow time
Family
I am a Cherokee Indian

Dahlonega

We went to Dahlonega Georgia on Wednesday. The first place we went to was the museum. I learned that gold wasn’t found in GA. it was found in South Carolina. They used bowl and a cart to look for gold. The museum was in an old courthouse. We went mining as well. It was cold. We learned that bats lived in the mines, and slept until April. If they were awakened before April then they would die of starvation. We also went panning for gold, I learned that going to fast and shaking the pan to hard can cause you to lose your gold. The drill they used to inside the mines were 3 times as loud than jack hammers used today on the streets. I really like that I found gold while we were panning. I enjoyed the bus ride because it wasn’t as long as the trip to cloudland canyon. It was cool that they have the museum in an old courthouse. Thank you transition program for allowing us to go on the trip it was great.
